Hope House Track & Field Project

Bacon for Hope is fundraising for a new track and field facility for Hope House! Through this project, we hope to better meet the needs of Hope House’s residents, providing an active and fun environment for every child in their one-of-a-kind family.

The Hope House kids are currently running on dusty, rocky, and uneven surfaces or alongside hazardous rural roads outside their property. A new track will provide a safe environment for activities and sports, such as track, cross country, soccer, football, and much more. This new facility will also allow the opportunity to host fun runs, fundraising activities, and volunteer events to better connect Hope House to the community.

BlessingBags

Holiday Event & Blessing Bags

Our Hope House holiday event included hours of play, a BACON catered brunch, and an afternoon of assembling “Blessing Kits” for the homeless. Kits were filled with essential toiletries, snacks, gear to bear the winter season, and personal notes from the Hope House kids with messages like: “Merry Christmas, you’re loved, you’re valued, thinking of you, and praying for you”.
• We had 10 BACON staff members, all 4 Bacon for Hope Board Members, and more family and friends join for the day.
• Leaders were overjoyed at the chance for the kids to be involved in a holiday outreach project, allowing them to give, rather than receive, and care for their community and others in a new way.

GoingOn_Basketball

Basketball Court Project

BACON for Hope’s first project in supporting the Hope House was completed in March 2019. Our first project was to build a new outdoor basketball half-court in the central park of the Hope House campus. The basketball court was decided upon after a lot of thought and discussion between BACON for Hope and the Hope House. Some of the key reasons for this project are as follows:
• The Hope House loves basketball and its current outdoor courts and equipment were not sufficient or safe. Though the kids never complained, poor equipment, lack of space, and dangerous obstacles made it difficult to play on the old courts.
• The central park is the only area on campus to play with constant supervision. Though the Hope House has an indoor basketball gym, kids cannot use it without adult supervision, which is a consistent struggle for an understaffed organization. The new court provides a consistent, quality, and safe place to play one of their favorite sports.
• The basketball court is a project within a larger plan to revitalize the whole central park area. Following the basketball court will be a large shaded structure, revamped volleyball courts, and new park games and amenities. The central park is the hub of all activity at the Hope House and our goal is to make it as livable, playable, and enjoyable as possible.

Camp

Basketball Camp

• The Hope House Basketball Camp is an annual event comprised of a two-day basketball, and intensive, camp. We spend the camp focused on skill development, offensive/defensive concepts, competitions, teamwork… and, as always, FUN!
• Camp coaches were: Gibson Berryhill (BACON for Hope), John Berryhill (BACON), Joel Nilsson (YMCA), Jacob Russell (College of Idaho), Rudy Cortez (Hope House Basketball Coach), and Jay Multanen (Hope House Athletic Director)
• The Hope House Heroes is the mascot of Hope Christian Academy athletic teams.

GoingOn_Park

Park Renovation: Shade, Sports and Games

The Hope House has a central park area that serves as the only consistently supervised area on campus for children to play freely and safely. Our first project was the new outdoor basketball court in the park and now we are continuing onto the next phases, including: A large shaded structure, revamped sand volleyball court, and new park benches, unique park equipment, and more outdoor games like tetherball and shuffleboard.

GoingOn_Dinners

Hope House Dinners at BACON

With an operation as large as the Hope House, eating out and dining at restaurants is not something that can be offered consistently (even though the Hope House cafeteria is rockin’!). The tradition of having the Hope House to BACON for meals is rooted in our hope to create a new and interactive dining experience for the kids that teaches proper etiquette and manners (i.e. utensil placement and use, how to tip correctly, opening doors, etc.) for them to carry throughout their lives. We want them to have tons of fun and to leave not only full of bacon, but full of life skills that will empower them to dine confidently in the future.
